About Amy

Amy Asherah is a writer and writing instructor. Her work has been published in CALYX, Boulevard, The New York Times (Modern Love), and other places. She has an MFA from Lesley University where she studied nonfiction writing, poetry, Black literary canon, the history of goddess-worshipping cultures, and writing as a therapeutic practice. She teaches Writing for Healing in Massachusetts and online. Find classes and learn more at writehealing.org.

Since 2000, Amy has performed poetry at slams and open mics, including the Cantab Lounge, the Nuyorican Poets’ Cafe, the Prudential Center, Boston University, Wake Up and Smell the Poetry, and online. The film of her poem, “Eight,” directed by Roger Ingraham, won “Best Experimental Short” and “Programmer’s Selection” at the 2021 Faithfest Film Festival and was selected as a nominee in the 2022 Canadian International Faith and Family Film Festival.
